Giving Tuesday 2021: How To Help Charities At Home In Brooklyn
A #BrooklynGives campaign is back for its sixth year to help Brooklynites help local nonprofits, particularly those fighting racial justice.
BROOKLYN, NY — An annual campaign to get Brooklynites to support charities in their own backyard is in its final push for donations.
The #BrooklynGives campaign — organized each year by the Brooklyn Community Foundation — will wrap up on Giving Tuesday, the world's largest day of charitable giving the week after Thanksgiving retail holidays.
The campaign encourages Brooklynites to donate to nonprofits based in the borough, which typically receives less than 5 percent of philanthropic dollars in New York City despite being the most populous, according to the foundation.

“#BrooklynGives is the only #GivingTuesday campaign that is focused on supporting the hyper-local racial justice organizations in Brooklyn that have been lifelines for our communities during COVID-19," said the foundation's Marcella Tillett. "...This #GivingTuesday, we want to make sure Brooklyn’s small BIPOC-led nonprofits receive the gratitude and investment they deserve so they can continue their important work."
Brooklyn Gives, in its sixth year, promotes local nonprofits through a free fundraising platformwhere the organizations can tell their story, engage with potential donors and receive contributions.

Those interested in donating can explore the organizations and use a "shopping cart" feature to support up to 10 nonprofits with one payment on the website, or buy #BrooklynGives gift cards. Though the campaign will culminate on Giving Tuesday, donations can be made through the end of December.
This year, the campaign also features a fan-chosen new ice cream flavor at Prospect Heights ice cream shop The Social, which will be unveiled on Tuesday. Proceeds from the flavor will benefit the Brooklyn Gives campaign.
Also on Tuesday, the Community Foundation will post videos every hour highlighting nonprofits on their social media channels.
They have also set up a $100,000 #GivingTuesday donation match for 20 organizations honored in the foundation's annual Spark Prize.
