CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A man accused of fatally stabbing his roommate in Crown Heights has been charged with murder, according to police.

Denie Baptiste, 40, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon late Friday, according to police.

His charges come the day after his roommate, 45-year-old Steven Beckles, was found stabbed in the chest inside their Crown Street apartment building near Troy Avenue, police said.

Beckles was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Baptiste had been in custody since the Thursday stabbing, but charges were not filed until Friday, according to police.

Police sources told the New York Post that the stabbing came after Beckles and Baptiste got into an argument, though the cause of the fight is unknown. Baptiste surrendered to the 77th Precinct shortly after the incident, according to the report.
