BROOKLYN, NY — In broad daylight last week, a man was injured in what police are calling a random, unprovoked attack outside a residential building in Brooklyn.

Just after noon on Oct. 7, a 65-year-old man was walking out of a residential building near Prospect Place and Thomas S. Boyland Street in Crown Heights when a stranger came up to him without warning, police said.

The stranger then started a verbal dispute with the man, though the reason for the confrontation remains unclear. Moments later, the attacker pulled out an unknown object and struck the victim’s hand, causing pain and swelling, police said.
