Man Steals Brooklyn Family's Car With 8-Year-Old Child Inside: NYPD

BROOKLYN, NY — An 8-year-old girl was recovered after a carjacking incident in Brooklyn on Saturday, New York City Police Department officials said.

According to the NYPD, the child was in the back seat of a car with her parents when they parked at Rockaway Parkway and Avenue A at 2:55 p.m. and got out to inspect some damage on the vehicle.

But, when her parents got out for a quick look, an unknown man got into the car and drove away, police said.

The child and the car were later recovered at Howard Street and Pitkin Avenue, police said, which is about a mile away from where the car was stolen.

The man was seen running away on Howard Avenue, but there have been no arrests yet as of Monday morning, the NYPD said. There is no description of the man yet, police said.

EMS evaluated the child, and no injuries were reported, officials said.
