PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A beloved Brooklyn restaurant known for its seasonal dishes and top-quality ingredients is shutting its doors for good.

Olmsted, which has served customers at 659 Vanderbilt Avenue between Park and Prospect Place since 2016, will host its final dinner later this month.

"Deciding to close a restaurant is never based on a single decision, but rather on many factors," Chef Greg Baxtrom wrote on social media. "As we settle into nearly ten years on Vanderbilt Avenue with these small restaurants, I realize they no longer have the capacity to meet the standards that mean so much to me… Therefore, I am announcing that I will be closing Olmsted."

The announcement comes just weeks after Baxtrom closed nearby Patti Ann’s, his nostalgic tribute to Midwestern comfort food, known for dishes like tuna melts, breakfast skillets, and tavern-style pastas and pizzas.

According to Eater, Baxtrom continues to operate 5 Acres, his restaurant located in Rockefeller Center.

“Olmsted holds a very special place in my heart,” Baxtrom wrote, explaining that efforts to potentially save the restaurant had fallen through, ultimately leading to its closure.

Baxtrom hinted at what’s next, sharing that he plans to pursue new restaurant opportunities that reflect the same high standards he’s become known for in New York City and beyond. He also revealed that his first cookbook is set to be released later this year.

Olmsted, which is currently open Wednesday through Sunday for dinner from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., will serve its final meal on August 17.
