Straphanger Pours Lighter Fluid On Bus Driver In Crown Heights: NYPD

The man was angry that the B44 was going out of service and punched the driver multiple times, police said.

CROWN HEIGHTS, NY — An angry straphanger punched and poured lighter fluid on a bus driver over the weekend because of a delay, according to the NYPD.

A bus driver on Saturday announced the southbound B44 passengers would have to exit the bus on Nostrand Avenue near Empire Boulevard because it was going out of service, according to the NYPD and New York Daily News.

The news hit one passenger hard, who stayed on the bus, punched the 57-year-old driver multiple times and poured lighter fluid on him, police said.

The driver was transported to an area hospital while the rider ran. Police on Tuesday had not arrested the man but released a photo of him holding lighter fluid.
