BROOKLYN, NY —Subway operator Myran Pollock was stabbed in the leg and torso several times at the Crown Heights-Utica Avenue subway station on Tuesday morning, New York Police Department officials said.

The attack took place around 10:49 a.m. after Pollock told everyone to get off the train at the last stop, police said.

The suspect who is accused of stabbing Pollock, 27-year-old Jonathan Davalos, was arrested following the attack.

Davalos has been charged with accusations of attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree and two counts of assault in the second degree, and menacing in the second degree, police said.

Davalos is being held without bail, and is due back in court on Friday, officials from the District Attorney's office said.

According to the New York Daily News, Davalos just got out of prison in February, where he was doing time for assaulting a Brooklyn subway conductor in 2020.

“This defendant is accused of viciously attacking and seriously injuring a hardworking train operator who was simply doing his job. My office requested that he be held without bail, and we will aggressively pursue full accountability for this violent assault. Keeping straphangers and transit workers safe is essential to the functioning of our city and a top priority for my office,” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said.

Pollock was rushed to Kings County Hospital following the attack, and, according to Transport Workers Union, was put into a medically induced coma.

"My thoughts are with Mr. Pollack and his family as he recovers from this senseless act of violence," Gonzalez said.
