Sunshine, Fun Returns To Vanderbilt Open Streets In Prospect Heights

A weekend of events is on, now that the rain is gone.

PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — With the nasty weather gone, a weekend of music and neighborhood fun is on the menu this weekend for Prospect Heights' vaulted Vanderbilt Avenue Open Streets.

On Saturday and Sunday, you can catch DJ sets, a classical guitar performance or a drag show. There's something for everyone, courtesy of the Prospect Heights Neighborhood Development Council, the main sponsor and neighborhood group who keeps the streets operating.

Here's a full list of what you can find on Vanderbilt Avenue this weekend:

  • Seniority, a R&B band, will be playing between Pacific and Dean Streets at 2 p.m. Saturday.
  • Gib Veconi, a chair member of the PHNDC, is also an accomplished nylon guitarist and will be performing jazz and world music between Prospect Place and St. Mark's Place at 5 p.m. Saturday.
  • As part of National Coming Out Day on Oct. 11, Branded Saloon is hosting family friendly drag performances and a disco DJ set (from a Vanderbilt Avenue resident!). The event will feature appearances from McFlower Tortilla, Klondike, and Lena Horne. You can catch the fun between Bergen Street and St. Mark's Avenue at 1:30 p.m. Sunday
  • And the last music act of the weekend, Regional de NY will perform Brazilian choro music — an instrumental, traditional Brazilian style — between Dean and Bergen Streets at 3 p.m. Sunday
