Teen Killed, 4 Hurt When Driver Chased By Cops Crashes In BK: PD

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A teenage girl was killed and four others injured when a car being chased by police crashed in Crown Heights, according to the NYPD.

Police were trying to stop the Hyundai Sonata as it drove down Eastern Parkway around 2 a.m. on Sunday, when it crashed into a Toyota that had been driving up Rogers Avenue, according to police.

The crash sent the 18-year-old driver of the Sonata and its three passengers — an 18-year-old girl and two 19-year-old boys — to the hospital, police said.

The 18-year-old girl died from her injuries at the hospital, police said. The driver was in critical condition and the two 19-year-olds were in stable condition as of Monday morning, according to police.

The 61-year-old driver of the Toyota was also sent to the hospital in stable condition, police said.

The 18-year-old boy who was driving the Hyundai was arrested after the crash, though his charges are pending, according to police. Cops did not give details on why police had been stopping the driver before the crash.

The crash is under investigation by the NYPD's Force Investigation Division given that police were involved before the collision, police said.

The crash is the second time someone has died in a collision on Eastern Parkway in just three days.

On Friday, a cyclist riding an e-bike near St. Marks Avenue was hit and killed by a school bus on the corridor, according to police.
