These Crown Heights Projects Could Win $1M From City Council

Prospect Park upgrades and school investments are all in the running for participatory budget money in Brooklyn's 40th District.

BROOKLYN, NY —Prospect Park upgrades, tree plantings, school investments — it's time for neighbors in Crown Heights' 40th District to choose how to spend this year's participatory budget money in City Council.

Voting will be open until April 10 for the $1 million in Council Member Rita Joseph's participatory budget, a program that has residents brainstorm, pitch and vote on ideas for local funding

There are eight projects in the running this year in District 40, which covers Crown Heights, East Flatbush, Flatbush, Kensington, Midwood, Prospect Park and Prospect Lefferts Gardens.

A description of each project can be found on the district's Participatory Budget page, where neighbors can choose at least two, and no more than three, projects to support.

  • Reconstruct Prospect Park Staircases between Concert Pavillon and Breeze Hill: $500,000
  • Install Pathway Lighting in Prospect Park, between Nethermead and Ballfields: $130,000
  • Install a New Audio Visual System & Lighting at the auditorium of PS139: $550,000
  • Improve Audio Visual & Lighting at PS6: $550,000
  • Plant 40 New Trees + Install 40 Street Tree Guards across CD40: $218,000
  • Repave the Parade Grounds Paths: $500,000
  • Install Picnic Tables in Prospect Park: $50,000
  • Resurface Streets in CD40 (HW349LUM)
