QUEENS, NY — A fatal police shooting in Queens last week is under investigation by state Attorney General Letitia James.

James announced a probe Tuesday morning into the death of Djamshed Nematov, 46, who died in a hail of police gunfire and a blast from a Taser after NYPD officials said he charged cops with a knife.

The probe — which is required by state law — will delve into what happened March 8, when officers responded to a 911 call of a man stabbing his wife during a family gathering in a Forest Hills apartment, authorities said.

Three rushed into the 62nd Avenue apartment building, climbed stairs to its second floor and came face-to-face with a man later identified as Nematov, who had a knife, said the NYPD's Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey last week.

"He starts charging," Maddrey said. "The sergeant goes for his Taser, the two officers go to their firearms."

Two officers fired four shots, while an NYPD sergeant blasted his Taser at Nematov, Maddrey said.

Medics rushed the wounded Nematov to a local hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead, Maddrey said.

A woman who left an apartment with Nematov while holding her bleeding stomach also went to the hospital, where doctors treated her for two stab wounds, Maddrey said. Her identity is unclear, but state prosecutors said the initial 911 call involved a man stabbing his wife.

The stabbing unfolded during a party inside the apartment, Maddrey said.

"There were multiple family members, adults and children as well," he said.
