QUEENS, NY — Presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren endorsed public defender Tiffany Cabán for Queens district attorney on Wednesday.

A Sanders fundraising email calls Cabán the "candidate who is taking on virtually the entire political establishment," according to NY1, which broke the news of the endorsement.

"Tiffany has put together the kind of grassroots efforts in takes to win," reads the email from the Vermont senator.

News of Sanders' endorsement broke just minutes after Warren expressed her support for Cabán on social media.

"[Cabán] will fight for working families and work to end mass incarceration," the Massachusetts senator wrote on Twitter.

The insurgent candidate continues to rake in high-profile supporters ahead of the June 25 Democratic primary that will likely determine Queens' next chief prosecutor.

The New York Times editorial board endorsed Cabán on Tuesday, touting her lack of ties to the borough power structure, which has largely backed Queens Borough President Melinda Katz.

Rep. Gregory Meeks, who leads the Queens County Democratic Party and has endorsed Katz, took a swipe at Sanders and Warren for their endorsement in an emailed statement from Katz's campaign.

"Clearly they did not speak with the Elected Officials of Queens County, or the people who elected them," Meeks said in the statement. "African Americans have the largest stake in this DA race, from reforming the criminal justice system...Yet Warren and Sanders saw fit to endorse without even considering what African Americans thought."

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has also thrown her weight behind Cabán, who has spent seven years as a public defender with the New York County Defender Services and the Legal Aid Society's Criminal Defense Practice.
