Bill Cosby Faces New Drugging, Rape Accusation From Singer In NYC Suit

A lawsuit filed Friday also accuses NBC and a Queens studio of turning a blind eye to the comedian's predations on "The Cosby Show" set.

NEW YORK CITY — Disgraced comedian Bill Cosby faces new accusations that he drugged and raped a woman at the height of his "The Cosby Show" success, according to a new lawsuit in Manhattan court.

A singer filed the lawsuit Friday against Cosby, as well as NBC and Queens-based Kaufman Astoria Studio, which she claims effectively enabled his predatory sexual behavior during the 1980s and early 1990s.

The woman contends after they first met on "The Cosby Show" set that Cosby gave her drinks on multiple occasions between 1987 and 1990 that made her black out. Cosby raped or sexually assaulted her during those black out, the lawsuit states.

Her attorney Jordan Rutsky, who is also representing five women in a similar lawsuit against Cosby and Kaufman Astoria, said the accusations fit into a pattern.

"This lawsuit should come as no surprise to anyone," the woman's attorney Jordan Rutsky told Patch. "At this stage most people are aware of the many accusations against Mr. Cosby and (she) is one of those many people."

A representative for Cosby reissued a previous statement from to the past, similar lawsuit, that accused the law firm involved with inciting a lynching against the comedian.

"The Merson Law Firm along with these alleged distractors are fueling false narratives for the potential of media fame and greed," the statement reads. "Mr. Cosby continues to invoke his Constitutional Rights by saying, 'Not Guilty' and vehemently denying all of these alleged allegations waged against him."

Representatives for NBC didn't return requests for comment. Kaufman Astoria representatives couldn't be reached for comment.

Patch does not typically identify victims or accusers of sexual assault without permission. The woman, who is a singer, has not previously gone public with her accusations against Cosby, said Rutsky.

The lawsuit was filed under the state's Adult Survivors Act, which created a one-year suspension of the statute of limitations to allow victims to revive civil lawsuits related to sex crimes. Victims have until Nov. 24 to file similar lawsuits.

The complaint states the woman was invited by Cosby to "The Cosby Show" set in Kaufman Astoria studios in 1987 under the pretense he wanted to help her career as a singer.

She then spent time with Cosby, his family and came to see him as a "father figure," the lawsuit states. He told her that he wanted to hire her to appear and potentially sing on a special episode of his hit show, according to the lawsuit.

But during multiple times from roughly 1987 to 1990, Cosby gave her beverages that he insisted she drink, and after which she felt extremely intoxicated and blacked out, the lawsuit states.

"On one such occasion, (she) drank a beverage provided to her by Cosby at his home, and awoke to find herself in a hotel room, naked, with soreness in her vagina," the lawsuit states.

The lawsuit contends that Cosby had undressed and raped her. It also argues he raped or otherwise sexually assaulted her on other occasions when she blacked out.

Cosby, 86, was convicted of sexual assault in 2018 and imprisoned until 2021, when his conviction was vacated by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
