Building In Jamaica Receives Historic Preservation Award

QUEENS — A building in Jamaica received a 2022 New York State Historic Preservation Award from the state, Governor Kathy Hochul announced Wednesday.
The T Building, an affordable housing property, in Jamaica won the award of Excellence in Historic Building Rehabilitation for its efforts in protecting and revitalizing historic and cultural resources.
"Preserving notable landmarks across New York allows us to celebrate our shared history and honor our collective past," Governor Hochul said.

The 10-story building, located at 82-41 Parsons Blvd., has restored the building’s original Art Moderne-style features and its architecture and has provided affordable housing through federal historic rehabilitation tax credits.
The T Building, originally serving as a hospital, was built in 1938 and was then converted into affordable housing apartments.

The building offers a library and computer room, a community room, a TV room, an auditorium community room, outdoor sun terraces, a laundry room, a gymnasium, a playground, and a parking lot.
