Car-Share Program Expands To Queens, Grabs 28 Parking Spots: See Where

The parking spots were revealed in a letter sent by the Department of Transportation on Wednesday.

QUEENS — More than two dozen parking spots in Queens will be handed over to private car-share companies as the city expands its short-term vehicle rental program.

The parking spots were revealed in a letter sent by the Department of Transportation on Wednesday, listing 28 new parking spots across Queens as part of its car-share expansion.

More than 250 new curbside carshare parking spaces will be added citywide this week and the following week after what the DOT called a “successful” pilot that reduced car ownership. The department said the pilot also helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 7 percent.

So far, 552 parking spots have been installed across New York City for the car-share program, and future sites will be installed throughout the year, DOT said.

The car-share program launched in 2018 as a pilot in 14 neighborhoods. Members of the public can rent Zipcar, Getaround, and Truqit vehicles for quick trips, with parking spots set on non-metered, curbside lanes.
