Caribbean Christmas: Laurelton School Hosts Jamaican Grand Market
Two other markets are scheduled for Dec. 11 and Dec. 17 at Harry S. Truman High School in the Bronx and Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn.

QUEENS — A charter school in Queens is slated to host the first part of a series of Caribbean-themed Christmas markets across the city.
“Christmas Grand Market: A Caribbean Celebration” will take place on Dec. 10 at Merrick Academy Charter School as part of a Jamaican tradition that brings together musical performances, gift-giving, and other activities.
“We’re expanding this Jamaican tradition to include other Caribbean islands,” said Andrew Clarke, cofounder of Braata Productions, which is organizing the event. “This year is the 60th anniversary of independence for Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago, so the events will particularly highlight those country’s cultures.”
