City Worker Who Killed Queens Pedestrian Arrested, Police Say
Roderick Mitchell, 38, an environmental protection worker, is accused of fatally driving a city truck into a pedestrian, authorities said.

QUEENS, NY — A city environmental protection worker who fatally struck a Queens pedestrian has been arrested, police said.
Police took Roderick Mitchell, 38, into custody Tuesday on charges of failure to yield and failure to exercise due care.
Mitchell is accused of plowing into Natalia Garcia-Valencia, 43, during a March 12 crash in Elmhurst, authorities said.

Garcia-Valencia was in a crosswalk about 8:30 a.m. that morning when Mitchell — who was driving a Ford F-750 Department of Environmental Protection truck — took a turn from 57th Avenue onto 80th Street, NYPD officials said.
Mitchell struck Garcia-Valencia with the truck — a collision that left her with head and body trauma, police said.

Medics rushed Garcia-Valencia to Elmhurst Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead, authorities said. Mitchell stayed at the scene, officials said.
