Dead Body Found On Breezy Point Bay, Officials Say

BREEZY POINT, NY — A man's dead body was found along the Breezy Point waterfront Friday afternoon, city and federal officials said.

The unidentified corpse was discovered along the bay on the western end of the Rockaway Peninsula at about 12:30 p.m., said Daphne Yun, a spokesperson for the National Park Service, which oversees the nearby Fort Tilden park.

The man found on the shoreline near West End Avenue was pronounced dead at 1 p.m., an NYPD spokesperson said, adding that the city's medical examiner will determine how he died.

The spot is about six miles west of where two swimmers disappeared in the ocean off Rockaway Beach on Tuesday. Police are likely investigating whether the found body is one of the swimmers, the NYPD spokesperson said.
