Drunk Driver Who Killed 2 In Richmond Hill In June Indicted: DA

A 22-year-old who killed two men, one driving his neighbor to work, last month was indicted Monday, prosecutors said.

QUEENS — A drunk driver who killed two men, one driving his neighbor to work, in Richmond Hill last month was indicted, facing manslaughter and vehicular homicide charges, prosecutors said.

Tamir Khan, 22, was indicted Monday after admitting to driving while intoxicated on June 5, leading to the deaths of 64-year-old Inderdeo John, and 71-year-old Charles Harris, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said.

He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted, and the 22-year-old is set to return to court on Sept. 7, Katz said.

Khan was driving a gray Audi A4 on 117th Street when he ran past a stop sign at the intersection with 111th Avenue, and then struck a silver 2001 Toyota Camry driven by John and Harris as the passenger, the district attorney said.

The Camry spun and hit a utility pole, and Khan left the crash scene, prosecutors said.

The 22-year-old returned about 30 minutes and admitted to driving the vehicle, Katz said.

John, from South Ozone Park, died at a local hospital later that morning. Harris, who was being driven to work, died the next day from head and chest injuries, the district attorney said.

An intoxilyzer exam Khan took about two hours after the crash indicated that he was drunk, and the Audi’s windshield was tinted above the legal threshold, prosecutors said.
