Motorcylicst Fatally Struck In Queens, Flushing Man Arrested: NYPD
Jairo Ortiz, 24, also stands accused of driving an unregistered sedan without a license, police said.
QUEENS — A Flushing man stands accused of fatally striking a motorcycle rider while driving drunk without a license in the streets of Queens, police said.
Jairo Ortiz, 24, was arrested on manslaughter charges after crashing his 2021 BMW 328I sedan at 82nd Street and 37th Avenue in Elmhurst about 1 a.m. Saturday, the NYPD said.
Medics rushed the scooter-rider to Elmhurst Hospital but doctors were unable to save his life, police said.

Ortiz remained on the scene and was later arrested, police said.
Correction: An earlier version of this story stated an e-scooter rider was struck by the car per the information received by the NYPD. The man was riding a motorcycle, not an e-scooter.
