Elderly Woman Assaulted In Elevator, Robbed Of Food: NYPD

The suspect allegedly tried to steal the 72-year-old's cell phone, but when that failed she pushed her to the ground, according to police.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — An elderly woman who resides in the Rutgers Houses in the Lower East Side was assaulted and robbed on July 19 at approximately 12:32 p.m., according to the NYPD.

On the night in question, the suspect entered the elevator, located at Rutgers and Madison streets, and initially attempted to allegedly steal the 72-year-old’s cell phone, but when that failed she then pushed the elderly woman to the ground and stole her food, reported authorities.

It is unknown as to where the suspect fled, said the NYPD.

The victim was sent to NY Presbyterian with swelling to the head and elbow and was in stable condition, officers reported.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in ascertaining the whereabouts of the suspect in the attached surveillance video above provided by the NYPD and obtained from the crime scene.

The suspect is believed to be approximately 35 to 45-years-old, has a light complexion and black hair. She was last seen in a green shirt.
