Elmhurst Father Charged For The Killing Of Three-Year-Old Son: DA

Shaquan Butler, 26, was charged with murder, manslaughter, and endangering the welfare of a child, prosecutors said.

QUEENS – A man from Elmhurst was charged with the murder of his three-year-old son last week, the Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said Monday.

Shaquan Butler, 26, was charged with murder, manslaughter, and endangering the welfare of a child after he fatally struck his son, also named Shaquan Butler in the Pan American Hotel, which doubles as a homeless shelter, prosecutors said.

Butler faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted, Katz said.

On Sunday, Nov. 13, Butler fatally hit his son about 7:30 p.m. while the toddler’s mother and siblings were in the apartment, the district attorney’s office said.

Officers found bruising to the child’s head, torso, and other parts of his body, and was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, prosecutors said.

The child died of internal bleeding and blunt force to his torso, Katz said.

Butler is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 22, the district attorney’s office said.
