Far Rockaway Grandmother Who Killed Daughter's Boyfriend Sentenced: DA

Suzette Olin was sentenced to 23 years in prison after she fatally shot Shaka Ifil in 2020, prosecutors said.

QUEENS — A 68-year-old woman was sentenced to prison after fatally shooting her daughter’s boyfriend nearly three years ago in Woodhaven, prosecutors said.

Suzette Olin was sentenced to 23 years in prison after she fatally shot Shaka Ifil, 40, three days after her daughter filed a domestic incident report against him in July 2020, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said.

A neighbor found Ifil, a father of a newborn, shot in the back in his home on 91st Avenue on the afternoon of July 26, 2020 and he was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he died, the district attorney said.

Before he died, Ifil told police Olin had shot him, Katz said. Security footage showed the 68-year-old exit an Access-A-Ride vehicle in front of her son-in–law’s home and a DNA test linked a cigarette butt found in the apartment to Olin, prosecutors said.

Three days before the shooting, Olin’s daughter filed a domestic incident report alleging Ifil broke a door in their apartment, the district attorney said.

Police found a broken door in the apartment, and Olin’s daughter was not injured, Katz said.

Olin was convicted by a jury in March of manslaughter in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, prosecutors said.
