FDNY Firefighter Candidate Dies After Training Run
A GoFundMe is raising money for the family of Alexander Griffin, 32, who died after a "medical episode" last week, officials said.

NEW YORK CITY — An aspiring FDNY firefighter died after he suffered a "medical episode" during a training run last week, officials said.
Alexander Griffin, 32, will be laid to rest Thursday in Queens, according to an obituary.
A GoFundMe seeks to raise $35,000 to help Griffin's family pay for his funeral and medical expenses from his untimely death.

"He was a young man full of dreams and aspirations, but tragically, his journey was cut short while pursuing those dreams," the fundraiser states.
Griffin, a candidate to become an FDNY firefighter, was on a training run last week when he experienced what officials called an "undetermined medical episode."

"He received immediate medical care and was transported to Metropolitan Hospital, where he passed away," officials said in a statement. "Our hearts are with the family as they grieve this tragic loss."
Griffin left behind his wife, mother and brother, who is an FDNY firefighter in Queens, the fundraiser states.
The GoFundMe raised roughly $16,000 as of Tuesday morning.
"No donation is too small, as every bit helps to ease the financial burden that has unexpectedly fallen upon this grieving family," the fundraiser states.
