Gun Buyback Program In Queens Nets 32 Firearms

QUEENS – Over the weekend, 32 guns were collected in Far Rockaway during a gun buyback program, the Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said.
The program, which exchanges unloaded firearms for monetary compensation, aims to reduce the citywide spike in gun violence.
“Gun violence will never become the norm in our communities, and we will continue to make every determined effort to rid our streets of this plague,” Katz said in a statement. “Each of the 32 guns recovered today is a move away from potential destruction. I thank today’s co-sponsors for their partnership and dedication to public safety.”

The event was held at the Church of God Christian Academy in Far Rockaway in partnership with the NYPD, Congressman Gregory Meeks and others.
Katz has hosted eight gun buyback events, collecting over 400 firearms.
