JFK Airport Breaks Ground On Terminal 6 Renovations, 10 New Gates
The $4.2 billion renovation will create 4,000 jobs, with new gates slated to open in 2026.

QUEENS — Renovations for Terminal 6 at the John F. Kennedy Airport broke ground on Thursday, adding 10 new gates and thousands of jobs at the airport, Governor Kathy Hochul announced.
The $4.2 billion renovation will create 4,000 jobs, with new gates slated to open in 2026.
The terminal upgrade is expected to be completed by 2028, adding floor-to-ceiling windows, high ceilings throughout the terminal, security improvements, and other enhancements.

“Our borough's economy is reaching new heights every single day because of monumental investments like these,” Queens Borough President Donovan Richards said in a tweet.
Aside from city funding, the project is supported by JFK Millennium Partners, which includes investors like Vantage Airport Group and American Triple I, New York real estate company RXR, and JetBlue Airways.

A 100,000-square-foot retail and dining area will also be implemented in the upgraded terminal, as well as a taxi plaza for for-hire vehicles that will be shared with Terminal 5.
Upgraded security systems will include automated TSA security lanes and biometric-based access control systems.
