The fuel spill occurred when a fuel truck malfunctioned while attempting to pump gas into an airplane.

QUEENS, NY — About 50 gallons of jet fuel was dumped on the tarmac at John F. Kennedy Airport Wednesday morning, resulting in delays to a flight, airport officials said.
A fuel truck malfunctioned around 7 a.m. Wednesday as it attempted to pump fuel into an airplane at JFK's Terminal 5, a Port Authority spokeswoman said. The flight — a Jet Blue plane headed for Jacksonville, Florida — eventually departed the airport around 9:30 a.m. after two hours of delays.
Crews were called in to mitigate the fuel spill and the area had been cleaned up as of 10:15 a.m., a Port Authority spokeswoman said.
