  1. Kids in Rockaway Park are getting their very own culinary experience. Students at P.S. 317 in Rockaway Park are participating in a new after-school cooking program. Common Threads, a nonprofit program, gives kids an opportunity to learn about the cuisines and cultures of countries around the world. According to a spokesperson for Common Threads, the program was able to flourish in part because of support from Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato. (QNS.com)
  2. Flushing Bank will be opening a new location at 85-15 Queens Boulevard in Elmhurst. "Flushing Bank has a long history of serving the diverse, multicultural markets of the New York Metropolitan area," said John R. Buran, President and CEO of Flushing Bank. "This new Elmhurst location will expand our presence in Queens and deepen our relationship with the residents and businesses that reflect the diversity of this market." (GuruFocus.com)
  3. A motorist unwittingly drove over a man sleeping under his vehicle. According to police, the bizarre event took place just outside Mt. Zion Cemetery on Maurice Ave. At about 6:50 p.m. on Tuesday, the driver returned to the vehicle, which was a Ford E-350 equipped with a cherry picker, and ran over the victim with the rear tires of the vehicle. Police were notified immediately following the incident. As of Wednesday afternoon, police still have not identified the victim. (New York Daily News)
