Here are the top three stories today in Queens:

  1. Beginning in September, LaGuardia Airport (LGA) will have a new shortest route. According to an airline spokesperson, Delta will begin running service between Hartford, Connecticut, and LGA on Sept. 6. While the company's website lists the flight time as about an hour, customers will likely spend less time in the air. (Bloomberg)
  2. Just after midnight on Jun. 13, a man was shot outside of a luxury high-rise in Long Island City. According to police, the 25-year-old victim is expected to survive his injuries after being shot in the neck by an unidentified suspect outside 1 QPS Tower, a 44-story building located at 42-20 24th St. Police say the victim met with a would-be buyer to sell a Playstation 5; a dispute ensued and the suspect then pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the right clavicle area of his neck. (LIC Post)
  3. On Sunday, the intersection of Roosevelt Avenue and 70th Street was officially co-named “Little Manila Avenue.” More than 200 Filipinos and their friends turned out in Woodside for the official co-naming, which pays tribute to the Filipino community who established businesses and began moving to the area in the 1970s and built a hub near 69th Street subway station in Woodside. Sunday's event also commemorated Philippine Independence Day, a day that marks the declaration of independence from Spain in 1898. (Queens Post)
