Lidl Opens Second Queens Location As Grocery Chain Expands

The European cult grocery chain expanded its footprint in New York City with the opening Wednesday in Elmhurst.

QUEENS, NY — Lidl opened the lid on a second location in Queens this week.

The cult European grocery chain held a grand opening Wednesday for a new store inside Queens Place Mall, a popular Elmhurst shopping center.

The store is the German-owned chain's second in Queens, fourth in New York City and 174th in the U.S., company representatives said.

"Building on the success we’ve experienced in Astoria, we are excited to share with our newest neighbors a wide selection of fresh produce, an award-winning assortment and a convenient, fun shopping experience to our new friends and customers," said Simon Hedderman, regional vice president for Lidl U.S., in a statement.

Grocery shoppers in New York City have seen Lidl locations open in Harlem, Astoria and Staten Island in recent years.

The chain touts low prices, premium private-label foods and other notable offerings such as "hard-to-find cheeses," fresh-baked pastries and top-quality produce, representatives said.

The new Queens location along Queens Boulevard occupies 35,000 square feet on the mall's lower level, reps said. The store will be Mondays through Sundays from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
