Overnight Detours Planned On Long Island Expressway: What To Know
The closures will take place beginning Tuesday night.
TOWNS OF ISLIP, SMITHTOWN AND HUNTINGTON, NY — The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists of upcoming overnight detours westbound on the Long Island Expressway, or Interstate 495, in the towns of Islip, Smithtown and Huntington to facilitate a pavement resurfacing project.
Traffic will be detoured onto the service road between Exit 55 (Suffolk County Route 67/Motor Parkway) and Exit 49 (State Route 110) beginning Tuesday from 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. on weeknights.
Closures are expected to continue for about three weeks, weather permitting.

Additionally, one westbound lane will be closed between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Motorists are urged to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
