- Commuters should expect major disruptions in their subway ride next week as the Metropolitan Transportation Authority begins modernizing the signaling system on the A/C/E line in Manhattan. From Friday, Feb. 17 to Monday, Feb. 27, the A, C, D, E, F, and M lines will experience significant service changes as the old signaling technology is replaced with modern CBTC technology. The work will take place between 42nd and 59th streets, with M train service being the most impacted, not operating in most of Manhattan, and will not operate at all in Queens during the weekday rush hour. - Plans are in motion for the development of a unique three-story building at 178-01 147th Avenue in Jamaica, Queens. Conveniently located near the Parsons Boulevard subway station, where commuters can access the E and F trains, the building is the brainchild of Dharminder Singh and his company, Ranbir LLC. The proposed structure will stand at a height of 29 feet and offer a total of 18,319 square feet of space, with the majority earmarked for residential use. The building will feature 16 homes, each with an average size of 854 square feet, a cellar, and 11 open parking spaces. (New York YIMBY)
- A pedestrian was involved in an accident in Astoria, New York, on Feb. 11, leading to a call for assistance from the New York Police Department. The incident took place at around 7:20 p.m. on Ditmars Boulevard, where the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. The police department and local firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and closed off the area near Steinway Street to attend to the injured pedestrian. The individual was given medical attention and taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment while the cause of the crash is being investigated. (Local Accident Reports)
- The police are searching for a suspect who attempted to rape a woman in a building in Queens. On Feb. 8, at 10:40 p.m., a 34-year-old woman was leaving the bathroom in the lobby of a building near Crescent Street and 41st Avenue in Long Island City when she encountered a man exposing himself. The suspect attempted to force himself on the woman, but she screamed for help, attracting the attention of a Good Samaritan who intervened. The suspect fled the scene on foot towards the Queensboro Plaza subway station. The victim was not injured in the incident. (AMNY)
