Man Dies In Kew Garden Hills Car Crash, Driver Arrested: NYPD

Luis Angamarca, 31, was arrested on a drunk driving charge after the Van Wyck Expressway crash, police said.

QUEENS – A car passenger died in a Kew Gardens crash with a parked truck and the car's driver stands accused of driving drunk, police said.

Luis Angamarca, 31, was arrested on drunk driving charges after the Van Wyck Expressway crash near 72nd Avenue Friday about 11 p.m., police said.

The 28-year-old man riding in the 2019 Honda Accord with Angamarca lost his life soon after the collision, the NYPD said.

Angamarca, of Corona, was driving north when he abruptly swerved and struck the back of a 1999 Western Star Tractor Trailer parked on the pavement that separates the highway from Exit 11, authorities said.

Angamarca and the 28-year-old man were taken to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where the passenger was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the truck, 42, was also taken to the hospital in stable condition, the NYPD said.

The 31-year-old was arrested for driving a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 of 1 percent, authorities said.
