Man, Mother Die In Queens Blaze As He Tries To Save Her: FDNY, Report
A heavy fire engulfed a South Jamaica home Monday, killing two people, FDNY officials said.

QUEENS, NY — A Queens man and his mother both died as he tried to save her from a heavy fire that consumed a home, according to a report and FDNY officials.
Firefighters found two people on South Jamaica home's second floor after they arrived to find the whole structure engulfed in flames, an FDNY tweet states.
"Unfortunately, both individuals expired at the scene," said FDNY Deputy Chief George Healy.

“We quickly located two occupants on the second floor of the house. We quickly removed them and began medical intervention, but both died at the scene. Unfortunately, both individuals expired at the scene,” said Deputy Chief George Healy.

The pair were identified by the New York Daily News as a man, 63, and his 86-year-old mother.
The man came out and started saying, "My mother," before he rushed back inside to save her, a neighbor said, according to the Daily News.

The fire erupted about 6 p.m. at 108-33 164th St., near 109th Avenue, officials said. Firefighters arrived about 2 minutes later to find heavy fire in the basement and throughout the two-story house, officials said.
The blaze's cause remains under investigation.
