Thousands Of Queens Families Receive Free Turkeys Before Thanksgiving

The turkey dispersal was part of a series of events geared toward helping families receive the ingredients ahead of Thanksgiving.

QUEENS – Turkeys and fresh produce were distributed to more than 3,500 families in Corona and Eastern Elmhurst, predominantly Latino neighborhoods, in the days before Thanksgiving, local officials said.

The turkey dispersal from Nov. 18 to Nov. 21. was part of a series of events geared toward helping families receive the ingredients ahead of Thanksgiving, which studies have shown will cost New Yorkers 26 percent more this year because of inflation.

Several groups, and Council Member Franciso Moya, were in charge of the distribution, including the East Elmhurst Corona Civic Association, Grow NYC, First Baptist Church of Corona, and others.
