National School Walkouts in Queens: What You Need To Know
Find out which schools in Queens will be part of the national protest for stricter gun safety laws on Wednesday morning.

QUEENS, NY -- Students across Queens will abandon their desks for a symbolic 17 minutes to demand stricter gun control laws in a nationwide protest exactly one month after of Nikolas Cruz killed 17 students with an AR-15-style assault rifle in Parkland, Florida.
A dozen Queens schools - including public, private, charter and some universities - are among the 2,500 educational institutions participating in the National School Walkout at 10 a.m. on March 14, according to organizers from the Women's March youth group EMPOWER.
The students and teachers will march for 17 minutes - one for every student killed in the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School - protesting for gun control laws that would ban assault weapons, mandate background checks on potential gun buyers and allow courts to disarm people who show violent behavior, the organizers said.
