NYC Airport Floods: LGA Ground Stop, Terminal Closed, Flights Delayed

The Federal Airline Administration issued a ground stop at LaGuardia​ Airport Friday morning.

UPDATE: The Federal Airline Administration issued a ground stop at LaGuardia Friday morning because of flooding at a terminal and roads going in and out of the airport.

QUEENS — LaGuardia Airport shuttered one of its terminals Friday morning as downpours drenched the city and Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency.

Terminal A, also known as the Marine Terminal, was closed "until further notice" about 10:5o a.m., the airport announced on X, or what used to be Twitter.

"All #LGA ticketed passengers should confirm their flight status prior to traveling to the airport," officials warned.

Hochul said flooding in a fuel field was responsible for the LaGuardia Airport terminal's closure.

"Flights are going in and out of the airports but they are delayed," the governor said.

FlightAware data show 315 LaGuardia flights were delayed and 280 cancelled as of 3:45 p.m.

A New York Times climate reporter snapped a photo of the Grand Central Expressway near LaGuardia depicting what he described as "a lake."

John F. Kennedy Airport reported temporary heavy traffic at Terminals 5 and 7.

Flight tracker data for the international airport show 392 flights were delayed and 189 cancelled as of 3:46 p.m.

Transportation was no easy feat in Brooklyn Friday as the floods forced the MTA to close down an entire subway line.
