NYPD Open Fire On NYC Car Thieves, Thwart Heist In Queens

QUEENS, NY — The NYPD thwarted a heist and opened fire on car thieves who were trying to escape from a Queens auto-detailing shop Friday morning.

The incident happened at a shop on 33rd Ave. around 5:30 a.m., police said.

Officers at the scene observed the thieves making their escape in five stolen luxury cars. One of the thieves drove toward an officer and the cop fired one shot. The suspect wasn't hit and sped off.

Police pursued the stolen vehicles into the Bronx, where they apprehended two suspects and recovered four out of the five cars, according to reports.

Charges are pending against the two suspects. It is not known how many other suspects are being sought.
