Officer Fatally Shoots Armed Man In Far Rockaway, NYPD Says
The man was shot dead near Beach 56th Street and Beach Channel Drive about 8 p.m. on Thursday, the NYPD said.

QUEENS — A police officer fatally shot an armed man in Far Rockaway Thursday evening, the NYPD said.
Cops arrived at 439 Beach 56th Street and Beach Channel Drive about 8 p.m. Thursday to investigate a group of men in a building lobby, authorities said.
"They were taking a look at what they were doing," Chief of Patrol John Chell said.

Two men ran from the building and police made chase, Chell said.
One man was caught and arrested on drug charges while the second, when caught, resisted arrest, said police.

"A violent struggle ensues," Chell said. The struggle lasted about 20 seconds, he noted.
The cop shot the man, later found to have been carrying a 40 caliber semi-automatic firearm, Chell said.
The man, who is not believed to have fired his gun, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died, according to authorities.
