QUEENS – The man who hijacked a bus in Cambria Heights last month was indicted on charges of kidnapping and robbery, the Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced Wednesday.

Dwayne Gaddy, 44, was indicted after he boarded an eastbound Q5 bus on the morning of Oct. 27 with a fake gun, and then caused the bus to crash into a utility pole, prosecutors said.

Gaddy faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted, Katz said.

In October, Gaddy entered the bus and the MTA operator opened all the bus doors, allowing the over 30 passengers to exit, the district attorney said.

Gaddy said he was being chased and ordered the bus driver to hit the gas, according to prosecutors.

Shortly after, the driver jumped out the window at 231 Street and Linden Boulevard, and the suspect attempted to take control of the bus, Katz said.

The hijacker immediately attempted to take the steering wheel and lost control of the bus, careening into a utility pole between 223rd and 234th Streets, the district attorney said.

Both the driver and Gaddy were taken to local hospitals, and the MTA operator was treated for bruising to his elbow and hip, lacerations and abrasions to his arm and finger and substantial pain, prosecutors said.

Gaddy’s court date is set for Dec. 15, Katz said.
