A Queens man was charged with unlawful surveillance after a woman saw a phone recording her in a Nassau gym's tanning studio, police said.

QUEENS — A Queens man stands accused of planting his cell phone in the ceiling of a Great Neck gym to secretly record women in its tanning studio, according to police.

Demetrius Sumter, 27, faces a felony charge after a woman, 20 discovered the phone inside the Planet Fitness on Great Neck Road Saturday, according to police and a Pix11 report.

Sumter, 27, was arraigned Sunday on an unlawful surveillance charge in Nassau County Sunday, New York court records show.

Unlawful surveillance convictions can also result in placement on sex offender registry, according to the New York State Sex Offender Registration Act.
