Queens Man Sentenced To Prison Cash Prize Fraud Scheme: Feds

Scott Gammon was sentenced to three years in prison after mailing people fake prize notifications for five years, prosecutors said.

QUEENS — A man from Howard Beach was sentenced to prison on Thursday for tricking elderly people into paying fees for falsely promised cash prizes, according to Breon Peace, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.

Scott Gammon, 48, was sentenced to three years in prison after mailing thousands of people fake prize notifications for five years since 2014, asking them to pay a fee to receive the prize, and never sending them the cash, prosecutors said.

Gammon was charged with mail fraud, along with Christopher King and Natasha Khan, for the scheme that took place from Aug. 2014 to Aug. 2019 Peace said.

“Today’s sentencing brings to a close the investigation of Mr. Gammon, who devised a fake prize promotion scheme designed to defraud older Americans and steal from those who believed they had won a prize,” said Daniel B. Brubaker, Inspector-in-Charge of the United States Postal Inspection Service. “Unfortunately, for those who participated, they realized too late that they had been swindled.”
