Rikers Island Officers Suspended After Death Of Detainee: DOC
The Rikers Island officers were suspended for procedural violations after the death of Curtis Davis, 44, Sunday, officials said.

QUEENS — An Assistant Deputy Warden and two officers at Rikers Island after a 44-year-old man was found dead in his cell Sunday, the Department of Corrections said.
The Rikers Island officers were suspended for procedural violations after the death of Curtis Davis, who was found unresponsive in his cell in the George R. Vierno Center about 5 a.m. on July 23, officials said.
He received immediate medical care and was pronounced dead at about 5:37 a.m., according to a DOC spokesperson.

Davis had been in custody since June 1, 2023, officials said.
Davis was arrested after allegedly stabbing a 29-year-old man in the eye across the street from Davis’ Kensington home, according to The Daily News.
