School Teacher Arrested For Spraining Queens Student's Arm, Police Say

The student suffered swelling and pain to his arm, police said.

JACKSON HEIGHTS, QUEENS — A Jackson Heights middle school teacher was arrested Wednesday for twisting a student's arm, according to officials.

Joseph Pulitzer Middle School (I.S. 145) teacher Ramiro Cruz, 52, was arrested and charged with assault, police said.

The 13-year-old experienced swelling and pain to his arm, according a spokesman for the NYPD. The reason for the altercation was not immediately clear.

“There is no place for this alleged behavior in our schools and Mr. Cruz was removed and reassigned away from students pending the resolution of his criminal case,” a spokesman for NYC Department of Education said.
