QUEENS, NY — A straphanger was beaten with his own umbrella in a random attack by a man inside a Queens subway station, police said.

The straphanger — a 41-year-old man — was inside the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue/74th Street station early Sunday when an as-yet-unidentified man grabbed his umbrella, authorities said.

The umbrella-grabbing man then whacked the straphanger's wrist and head with it before hopping onto an "E" train headed north, NYPD officials said.
