Suspect Charged After Pepper-Spraying Mom, Baby On NYC Subway: NYPD

QUEENS, NY — A 34-year-old man accused of pepper-spraying a woman and her baby on a subway train in Queens last week has been arrested and charged, police announced on Thursday.
Edward Vargas was arrested Thursday morning and has been charged with two counts of assault, police said.
The incident happened on June 20 aboard a southbound "M" train approaching the Court Square train station.

A 25-year-old woman got into an argument with the suspect before Vargas allegedly pepper sprayed her and her baby in the eyes, police said.
Vargas fled the scene after the incident.

The 25-year-old and the baby were transported to Mount Sinai Queens for substantial pain and redness to their eyes and face.
Defense attorney information for Vargas was not readily available as of Thursday evening.
An investigation remains ongoing.
