QUEENS — A swimming center in Flushing Meadows Corona Park reopened on Monday, offering new classes to the public after the pool closed in 2020.

The Flushing Meadows Aquatics Center, located at 131-04 Meridian Road, made its comeback with new classes, including a training program to become a water safety instructor and competitive swim training for youth and adults.

“From learning to swim to staying in shape, you can do it all here. What a win for our kids, our youth, our families and our seniors across the borough,” Queens Borough President, Donovan Richards, said in a tweet.

The pool at the center closed in January 2020 amid an emergency netting installation and repair to the pool floor. The center’s opening was further delayed after the COVID-19 outbreak.

An additional renovation to the 110,000-square-foot facility is expected for 2025.
