Tater Tot Pizza Puts Bayside Eatery Back In Spotlight

Insider listed a Bayside eatery among eight restaurants doing "outrageous things with pizza" for its Loaded Tater Tot Pizza.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS -- A Bayside eatery best known for its unconventional crusted creations is in the spotlight yet again, this time for its latest signature pizza topped with tater tots.

Krave It Sandwich Shop & Eatery, located at 40-15 Bell Blvd., made Insider Food's list of "8 Restaurants Doing Outrageous Things With Pizza." Its Loaded Tater Tot Pizza was highlighted among specialty pies topped with everything from poke to macaroni and cheese in a video on Insider Food's Facebook page, which garnered more than 165,000 views within hours of being posted Tuesday afternoon.

The Loaded Tater Tot Pizza is baked with mozzarella, cheddar and pepper jack cheeses and topped with tater tots, sauces and onions. A handful of bacon is sprinkled on as the final touch.

"The first bite of a Loaded Tater Tot Pizza is like, 'holy s---, a pizza and a potato just had a baby,'" Krave It owner Vishee Mandahar told Insider when the pizza first came out in December.

Mandahar could not immediately be reached for comment on his latest pizza creation, but this is far from the first time his pies have made headlines. Krave It has made several appearances on Insider and other media outlets for its specialty pizzas, including a video the media outlet did on a cheeseburger pizza Mandahar came up with last summer for the Fourth of July.

Krave It's most recent claim to fame was the "Cran-Slam" pizza for Thanksgiving, which packed a three-course holiday feast of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and more atop a traditional mozzarella pie, Patch previously reported.

"We are all about serving comfort food," Mandahar said. "We do all kinds of traditional stuff."
