Teen Charged After Machete, Pepper Spray Attack On MTA Bus: Police

According to police, the boy tried to hide on the bus after being chased by a group of teens.

QUEENS, NY — A 15-year-old boy has been charged in connection with an alleged machete and pepper spray attack on an MTA bus in Queens close to two weeks ago, police said.

The suspect has been charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. Police are still searching for one other individual.

The incident happened on a Q24 bus on Sept. 12 near Atlantic Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard around 2:30 p.m.

According to police, the boy tried to hide on the bus after being chased by a group of teens — one of them chased the victim with a machete.

Social media video of the incident showed the bus driver trying to deescalate the situation and protect the boy, but he ended up getting pepper sprayed in the face by one of the teens.

Alex Kemp, Vice President of TWU Local 100, told PIX11 that the 54-year-old driver is at home recovering after the incident.
