Things To Do In Queens This Weekend

Join an ugly sweater contest, make a pizza with Santa, or shop for holiday gifts with a beer in hand. The opportunities are endless.

QUEENS, NY -- Snow may be headed toward New York City this weekend, but don't let that keep you from taking advantage of all the fun activities Queens has to offer. In fact, a few snowflakes might help you get in the mood for some of this weekend's holiday festivities.

Douglaston Village Winter Festival

Neighborhood: Douglaston

What: This day of community-wide winter fun features music, a hot chocolate bar and an ugly sweater contest all leading up to the Douglaston Village Square holiday lighting in the evening. The event will have pasta, chili, pretzels and hot drinks available for purchase to fundraise for the PS 98 fifth-grade class. Local vendors, clubs and students will also be selling treats and holiday gifts throughout the festival.

Santa Claus Is Coming To Unos

Neighborhood: Bayside

What: Ho, ho, ho! Ring in the holidays by making your own pizza with Santa and his crew at Uno's Pizzeria and Grill. The day includes crafts, goodies, a magician and pictures with Santa for $10 per kid with a donation to 4KIDS IN NEED - or $12 without - and $8 per adult. Call 718-279-4900 to make your reservation.

Queens Reading and Writing Workshop

Neighborhood: Woodside

What: Jackie de Dios, emerging writer and winner of the 2017 Queens Arts Fund New Works Grant, will read an excerpt from "69-06 Roosevelt Ave." a story she wrote about a Filipino immigrant family who moves to Woodside, Queens, in the 1980s. Dios will host a free creative writing workshop following the reading, which all are welcome to attend.

When: Saturday, Dec. 9, from 2:30 to 3:30 pm.


Astoria Holiday Market

Neighborhood: Astoria

What: Shop all of your holiday gift-giving needs under one roof from an array of artists, bakers and designers gathered at the Astoria Market. Admission is free, so stop by and enjoy a drink from the beer garden while you shop.

When: Sunday, Dec. 10, from noon to 6 p.m.


The Ten Tenors - Home For The Holidays

Neighborhood: Flushing

What: Straight out of Australia, the Ten Tenors are making their one and only stop in New York City this weekend for a holiday concert at the Kupferberg Center For The Arts. The group of entertainers, who have performed for more than 90 million people worldwide, will put on a holiday show full of Christmas classics like Joy To The World, Feliz Navidad and All I Want For Christmas Is You. Tickets are available online for $30-$55.

When: Sunday, Dec. 10, at 3 p.m.


Terrarium Class: Date Night

Neighborhood: Astoria

What: Grab your significant other and head on down to Luludi Living Art for an unconventional date night. Sip on a glass of wine while making your own terrarium with the help of an expert leading the class through the entire step-by-step process. The class costs $110 per couple and space is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot in advance online.
